Swiss say no to GMOs
The Swiss have voted to ban the use of GM plants and animals for five years. If the referendum is passed by the legislature, this will be the toughest set of regulations put forth in Europe. Polls show that 55% of the population support such a ban. Particular support is coming from parts of the farming community intersted in organic farming.
There is still a long road ahead to gain public approval of GMOs. An anti-GMO measure was recently voted down in Sonoma County, California. The debate rages on . . .
